Light
Up Thorpe Hall
Positive Media was invited to participate in
the Sue Ryder “Big Wigs” Challenge alongside twelve
other local businesses. Companies, given a crisp £50 note
to go get them started, were asked to go head to head and use their
entrepreneurial skills to turn the money into a healthy profit.
The Thorpe Hall Hospice building is such a
magnificent and attractive one, that the team at Positive Media
hit on the idea of lighting up the building with thousands of fairy
lights. Each light would symbolise over 5,000 patients who had been
cared for at the Hospice, the numerous people who had been born
at the hall in the days when it was a maternity unit and also those
who had been married there. Flyers were produced so that people
could dedication a light and distributed around the area.
We linked the campaign into Sue Ryder’s
15th Anniversary, also celebrated in 2006, to give it a focus and
an event and date to work towards. The Light Up Thorpe Hall campaign
culminated in a garden party on 11th August in the grounds attended
by staff, volunteers and families of patients (past and present)
to mark the occasion. Service awards and fundraising achievements
were acknowledge with presentations to staff and volunteers for
their efforts over the last 15 years. A jazz band provided the entertainment,
whilst a photographic display highlighted events over the years.
In addition, a dedication
page was created, where all the dedications could be seen.
The campaign ran from May to August (although
dedications would continue to be accepted until the end of November)
and raised a staggering £10,000.
Positive Media Consultancy were awarded the
Big Wigs 2006 trophy for the Most innovative idea.
